Garage door insulation adds rigid foam or reflective panels to the back of each section of an existing door, or replaces a single-skin door with an insulated one. Either way, the door holds back more heat, quiets down and feels sturdier. Because insulation adds weight, the springs are checked and adjusted so the door stays balanced and the opener is not overworked.
What the visit covers
- Door type, sections and condition checked for a kit
- Panels cut and fitted to every section
- Spring balance re-checked for the added weight
- Bottom seal and perimeter weatherstrip inspected or replaced
- Opener force re-set after the change
- Replacement quote when a kit is not the right fit

Insulation kits for existing doors
If your door is a sound steel sectional, a kit is the economical route: rigid foam or reflective panels fit into the recess of each section. Kits do not match a factory-insulated door, but they make a noticeable difference to heat and noise for a fraction of the price of a new door.
Insulated replacement doors
Factory-insulated doors bond foam between two steel skins, which adds real rigidity and dent resistance as well as insulation. If your door is old, dented or needs other work, replacing it with an insulated door often makes more sense than insulating a tired one.
Sealing the gaps
Insulating the door does little if air pours around it. We check the bottom seal, jamb and header weatherstrip as part of every insulation job, because a sealed perimeter is half the result.
On the job

Sun on the door, heat in the house
Garage doors in San Diego face different conditions by location: salt air on the coast and stronger sun and heat inland, as regional garage service experience reflects. In the inland valleys and in the Coachella Valley, where our Indio office works, a south- or west-facing door can bake an attached garage and the rooms above it. Insulating that door is one of the cheapest comfort upgrades a home can get.
How insulation is priced
Insulation kits are priced by door size and panel type; insulated replacement doors follow the replacement ranges on our installation page. We quote both on site when it is close. The factors:
Questions callers ask about this job
For attached garages, sunny exposures and garages used as gyms or workshops, usually yes. It also makes the door quieter.
Most steel sectional doors can. Doors with flush or damaged sections, wood doors and very old doors may be better candidates for replacement.
It adds some weight, which is why we check the spring balance and opener force as part of the job.
Yes. Insulated sections rattle less and dampen outside noise.
A factory-insulated door is stiffer and performs better, but a kit is a sensible upgrade for a door that is otherwise in good shape.
